one day in Havanna/Cuba
I had the chance to go to Cuba for the shooting of a feature film where we stayed in Havanna and on the countryside in April 2018. My expactations were undefined, regarding what the people, the city, infrastructure and logistics would be. Fidel Castro died almost two years before and the new gouvernment opened already towards the west. People were allowed to start small private buisnesses in certain divisions to earn their own money. But also there was still a food stamps system for the people. On the one hand, I found a poor country that needs investments now, otherwise all the beautiful old buildings in Havanna are going to be ruins soon. The shops offered only simple goods and often the shelves were empty. On the other hand, Havanna hasn't lost any of it's charme. Beautiful, friendly people, old cars, colonial style buildings and even the socailist pomp palasts merge to something incomparable. A country in movement but sometimes without a vision for directions.
